We don’t do “holidays” at the Bucket List Co. But this 10-day adventure in Jordan?

It’s the closest you’ll ever get to a holiday on one of our trips, with a challenge rating of 2. The main challenge you’ll really face on this trip is tearing yourself away when it’s time to head home. 

Turns out there are Bucket List experiences around every corner in beautiful Jordan. 

By day you’ll do gentle trekking through towering canyons, leisurely exploring in ancient sites and petroglyphs, and snorkelling through the constantly changing colours and corals of the Red Sea. By night you’ll sip Bedouin tea as you watch the sunset and stand in awe as the stars reveal themselves. 

And while we’d never call you a pig, if you do like the sound of robing yourself in a blanket of mud and lolling about atop the salty waters of the Dead Sea? You’re in for a treat.

The Best of Jordan Adventure Itinerary

  • Day 1: FLIGHT TO JORDAN

    FLIGHT TO JORDAN You will meet your Bucket List Leaders at the airport and fly out as a group for Bucket Lister + Trips. If you have booked a Bucket Lister Trip we will see you in Jordan soon! If you have transfers with us we will take you to the hotel. For those making their own way, we will see you in Amman. Welcome Briefing: Your welcome briefing will be at 6 pm at the hotel.

  • Day 2: ARRIVE AND EXPLORE AMMAN

    ARRIVE AND EXPLORE AMMAN Today it's time to explore the sights of the city. First, we will walk 10 minutes to Amman amphitheatre, before heading downtown for lunch. Next, we will walk to the citadel to explore the ruins and watch the sunset. We head back downtown for dinner - we suggest the famous Hashem Restaurant - and then anyone who wants to can visit Rainbow Street or relax in a cafe.  

  • Day 3: JERASH TO AJLOUN, TRANSFER TO DANA

    JERASH TO AJLOUN, TRANSFER TO DANA Today we wake up early and after breakfast meet our local guide(s). We take a transfer to Jerash, stopping off at some beautiful viewpoints to learn more about the environment and history of the area.  We will explore the ruins of Jerash for around two hours. Then we drive to Ajloun to look around the castle and its views. The castle is a fascinating site that dominates the Ajloun skyline, and was built to ward off the Crusader armies at the key trade and pilgrimage intersection between Jerusalem, Cairo, Damascus, and Mecca. We savour a delicious lunch at a local homestay in Ajloun, then drive to Dana Biosphere Reserve, where we will spend the night.  

  • Day 4: TREK DANA TO FEYNAN

    TREK DANA TO FEYNAN We wake up early again today and begin our trek after breakfast. The trail leads from Dana village towards Wadi Araba and the village of Feynan. The reserve, Jordan's largest, includes four distinct bio-geographical zones, which means that Dana supports an astonishing diversity of birds, plants, and animals. On your way down the valley you may see griffon vultures overhead, as well as hyrax and copper-blue lizards on the rocks; if you're lucky you might even catch a glimpse of an ibex or a desert fox, or see the footprint of a wolf in the dust. We walk through the wadi, taking short breaks to learn about the landscape. A picnic lunch is shared under the trees.  In the afternoon, we arrive in Feynan, relax with a juice or tea as we are checked in, and take a shower to refresh.  This evening, there is an optional short sunset hike to a viewpoint where we watch the sun go down over the Wadi Araba desert with Bedouin tea. After a delicious vegetarian dinner, we have the opportunity to attend a short presentation about the lodge and its environmental projects, then head up to the roof to stargaze and learn about the constellations - a magical way to end a fantastic day.

  • Day 5: BEDOUIN EXPERIENCES AND WALKING ACROSS THE CANYONS OF WADI GHWEIR

    BEDOUIN EXPERIENCES AND WALKING ACROSS THE CANYONS OF WADI GHWEIR After breakfast, you will hike part of Wadi Ghweir. This scenic trail begins from the lodge and passes by Khirbet Feynan, where many Byzantine and Roman ruins are preserved, passing onwards into the Wadi Ghweir basin. Experience walking through the towering rocks of the canyons - a truly unique adventure experience. The route returns the same way to the lodge. In the afternoon you can enjoy an activity offered in the eco-lodge, such as local community experience, traditional kajul making, or cooking classes. In the evening you will have a sunset short walk (around 20-30 minutes).

  • Day 6: TREK WADI GHUWEIR TO LITTLE PETRA

    TREK WADI GHUWEIR TO LITTLE PETRA Today we will rise early, share breakfast and tea, and then begin our hike to Little Petra. This section of the route is steep and challenging but also extremely rewarding, with fantastic views of the Wadi Araba Desert. Between Gbour Whedat and Little Petra you will pass many sites such as Ba'ajah ruins, siq Ba'ajah, the Nabataean wine and olive presses, water tanks, wells, and the Nabataean rock-carved facades, and then on to Little Petra, visiting the site (a mini version of Petra), before heading to your camping area.

  • Day 7: LITTLE PETRA TO PETRA HIKE

    LITTLE PETRA TO PETRA HIKE Today we hike from Ammarin Bedouin Camp, to Little Petra and finally Petra itself for our first glimpse of this Wonder of the World. The trek takes us through some of the most spectacular landscapes we have seen yet, with sweeping views high over the canyons and desert. Good tracks go down Wadi Ghurab, amidst sandstone mountains guarding the approaches to Petra. This route follows a Nabataean route out of the valley and skirts around the final mountain, on a natural rock terrace that has been ‘improved’ for the safety of walkers. Even so, it still narrows slightly before reaching a hidden plateau high above the impressive chasm of Wadi Siyyagh. When we near the ‘back door’ of Petra, we will stop for a cup of tea at a viewpoint, before continuing through to discover The Monastery. After taking in its grandeur (and taking lots of photos!) we'll enjoy our packed lunch at the cafe, perhaps with a fresh juice or a coffee. We then begin the part of the hike that goes through Petra, descending 950 steps into the main citadel. Along the way, our guide will tell us about the history of the various castles, tombs, and amphitheatres that have been carved into the mountains. We will, however, save the Treasury for tomorrow. When we leave Petra we'll check into our hotel for the night. After showering, we can enjoy dinner together, and then either spend the evening relaxing or go for an optional extra - visiting Petra by Night (17JOD pp), where the Treasury is lit up by candles and becomes the stage for storytelling and traditional music.  

  • Day 8: PETRA MORNING TOUR AND WADI RUM JEEP TOUR

    PETRA MORNING TOUR AND WADI RUM JEEP TOUR It's an early start on day two of our Petra experience, to beat the crowds. After breakfast, we'll walk to Petra and hike through the siq (narrow canyon) and be rewarded with the sight of the Treasury before us. We'll have a morning tour of the Treasury, learning more about the history and significance of the site. You'll then have some free time to independently explore Petra, and visit sites such as the High Place of Sacrifice and Al Khubtha mountain, or, if you're feeling courageous, the Al Madras trail. If you are interested in doing any of these trails, it is worth hiring a guide! The hiking trails are completely unmarked and almost impossible to follow. When we are done in Petra, we will drive to Wadi Rum. Here, we have a brilliant lunch at the tent camp and then enjoy a 2-hour jeep tour of Wadi Rum, following in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia, climbing dunes and rock bridges. After this, we have a short sunset hike to a viewpoint where we'll eat dinner under the stars. We spend the night in the peaceful desert, enjoying the hospitality of the Bedouins.

  • Day 9: SNORKELLING AND BOAT RIDE IN THE RED SEA

    SNORKELLING AND BOAT RIDE IN THE RED SEA After a delicious breakfast overlooking the Wadi Rum sunrise, we leave early and drive to Aqaba. Here, we head to the coast of the Red Sea and board our boat for the day. We'll take a boat ride on the Red Sea in a glass-bottomed boat, allowing us to see the coral. We'll also have views across Jordan, Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. We'll have time to swim and snorkel from the boat, over coral, and view the fantastic range of tropical fish in what is thought of as one of the best diving spots in the world. We will also enjoy a BBQ lunch onboard. After we have explored the underwater world of Jordan, we drive to the Dead Sea and have dinner at the hotel before spending the evening relaxing.  

  • Day 10: DEAD SEA EXPERIENCE

    DEAD SEA EXPERIENCE Today we will explore the famous Dead Sea of Jordan. We will head down to the beach together to learn about the Dead Sea. We'll float, try the mud with all of its health benefits, and swim.  You'll then have lunch at the hotel and enjoy a free afternoon - to revisit the Dead Sea, use the pool, or treat yourself to a treatment in the spa In the evening, we share a final celebratory dinner, saying thank you and goodbye to our local guides.  

  • Day 11: FLY HOME

    FLY HOME This marks the end of our Jordanian adventure.

My partner had previously been on a trip to climb Mount Toukal in Morocco with the Bucketlist Company, he came back raving about it and eager to book something else. Not wanting to miss out this time, it was to our delight that we discovered they were running a new trip to Jordan. It coincided with my partner’s 60th birthday and as it was a lifelong dream of his to visit Petra, this was perfect.

As the trip approached and having never remotely done anything like this before, I felt a strange mix of excitement and trepidation. However, my fears were completely unfounded. From the moment we arrived at the airport to be met by the wonderful David, what followed was 10 days of memory making that will last a lifetime. The people, the places we visited, the knowledgeable guide, the variety of accommodation, the food and challenging yourself to take on things you might not consider you are able to do and feel totally supported by the group is just wonderful!

We’ve had Petra on our Bucket list for years, but we wanted to do more, we wanted to get a real feel for the country of Jordan. When the Bucketlist Company launched their Trailblazer to Jordan we jumped at the opportunity to book. The 10 day itinerary was great and this would be our 3rd trip with this Company so we knew we would be in good hands. This trip overdelivered even on our expectations. The sightseeing, historical and biblical sites just blew us away. Amazing sunrises and sunsets. Lashings of great food, a fantastic group of people, fantastic trekking, simply THE most knowledgeable in country guide in Osama and the wonderful TBLC guide Dave kept it personable and enjoyable for everyone. This was a trip that just kept giving. We enjoyed stargazing, desert storms, Red Sea snorkelling and a lovely Dead Sea Spa experience. This is all before we reflect on the wonder of trekking to Little Petra and trekking into Petra through the back door. A truly amazing adventure that is still just sinking in.     • What currency should I use?

      USD is widely accepted, but it is important to also carry local currency (Jordanian dinars)

    • Do I need any vaccinations to enter Jordan?

      We aren’t certified to give medical advice so always recommend you consult your doctor or a travel doctor, as they will know which vaccinations you have had already and any additional ones necessary for your trip. You can also take a look here for travel vaccination information and advice on bringing medication into the country.

    • Do I need a visa when travelling to Jordan?

      You can buy a single entry visit visa valid for one month on arrival at the airports or the Sheikh Hussein/North Border crossing at the Jordan/Israel border. The cost is 40 Jordanian Dinars. Some airlines may require passengers to submit a health declaration at the check-in counters.
